LAST DAY OF THE INTERNSHIP! This is such a bittersweet moment. Today was the last day we were selling sweatshirts so I sat with Molly in the conference room and helped people get their sweatshirts. Amy is going to campus later this week so student volunteers can drop in and grab theirs without coming all the way to the building. While we were just sitting I continued to fill out our content documents and worked on compiling everything I need to turn in once I’m done this afternoon. Today was a good last hurrah for our internship because we hosted a Look Good Feel Better event! We cleaned up all of the sweatshirts and started setting up for the event. Once we were set up I went downstairs to check on the volunteers while waiting for our cosmetologist to arrive! I had fun chatting with everyone as always, but our cosmetologist was taking a long time to arrive so Amy traded spots with me so I could have a turn to eat lunch. Once she arrived she got all set up and Yessica and I headed downstairs to greet participants and bring them up. We had 8 people register, but only 2 actually showed up which was a bit of a bummer. It makes sense for the population we work with for people to miss events they planned on coming to because of changes in their treatment schedules, forgetting, or not feeling well. As a team we brainstormed some ideas for reminders we can send to participants to hopefully have better attendance. I love watching our cosmetologist interact with patients, she is so gentle and kind with them and truly makes them feel seen. We finally got to use the presentation that Yessica and I worked on so long ago with the steps and products. It wasn’t as necessary since this group was so small, but will definitely be helpful in the future. Once the event was over we cleaned up and put everything back where it goes. We chatted with our cosmetologist for a bit before Yessica and I had Amy sign everything we need to turn in. After work Amy took us to dinner at ZZ and Simone’s and we had a great time. I’m so grateful that this semester was fun and taught me so much.
