Summary of Week 14 Matched with Competencies

  • 3.1: Coordinate the delivery of intervention(s) consistent with the implementation plan.
    • 3.1.5: Train staff and volunteers to ensure fidelity.
      • At Growing Together, Molly and I trained the volunteers and before the event we had a Kesem specific training where I went over roles with my people. We walked them through the event and what they would be doing at each step. We showed them who they could ask questions to and explained that we would be floating to help them if anything came up. Kesem volunteers have been trained separately on how to handle difficult situations with kids, which came in handy at the event since we had some kids having a tough time. They did a great job of escalating and making sure everyone was good.
  • 3.2: Deliver health education and promotion interventions.
    • 3.2.4: Deliver health education and promotion as designed.
      • Each station throughout the clinic had a different purpose and taught the kids something. The nurses, staff, and volunteers did such a good job of teach the kids and bringing things down to their level. We shared Kesem resources with families to hopefully continue the processing and growing they started at the event.
  • 6.1: Determine factors that affect communication with the identified audience(s).
    • Identify the assets, needs, and characteristics of the audience(s) that affect communication and message design(e.g., literacy levels, language, culture, and cognitive and perceptual abilities.)
      • We hsd 3 Spanish speaking families attend Growing Together this weekend. I did not have a direct hand in creating translated materials, but I helped distribute them on social media and helped coordinate a Spanish speaking Kesem volunteer to be an ambassador for those families. I helped create some materials for the kids and made sure to use kid friendly language.

Reflection of Week 14

  • This week included a lot of event planning for Growing Together. I loved it because events are one of my strong suits, especially this one because I had a hand in both the UCBC side of things and the Kesem side. This event was really meaningful for me because it brought together the two biggest things I’m involved in right now. I love being able to help our patients and their families navigate the emotional sides of their experiences. It’s been cool getting to work with people in different areas of UCBC like marketing, social work, and C suite people for this event and others that we’ve done. It’s sad that this internship is coming to an end so soon, I’ve really loved the work I’ve been doing here and the people I’ve gotten to work with.
