Happy April Fools! Today started with blogging then Yessica worked on some content together. At 9am we all met to go over plans for volunteer appreciation week later this month. I worked on designing a banner to hang in the lobby. Molly created an order form for UCBC Cares sweatshirts for the volunteers and staff. They will be a gift for the volunteers and something to purchase for the staff. People are so excited about them. We’re getting bundtinis donated from Nothing Bundt Cakes each day for the volunteers that week. We also talked about who we’re planning to give the Jen Allen Spirit of Service awards to. This award was created to honor the first volunteer of the program who passed away. After this meeting we ran some stuff back to our storage unit and played a prank on Amy. We all swapped dresses and came back into her office like it was nothing. It took her 10 minutes to realize. Yessica and I worked on more content and the breast/testicular self-check hangers. We had Panda Express for lunch today and were all able to sit together and chat. After lunch Molly had me train a new volunteer on the first floor. She is a high schooler and seemed nervous and had lots of questions so I did my best to assure her that she would do a great job. I introduced her to the other volunteers on the first floor and asked what their advice was for a first time volunteer to help break the ice of conversation and get a different perspective than my own. I told the new volunteer to basically shadow one of the experienced volunteers by following, watching, and listening to how she interacted with patients to feel more comfortable doing it herself. I couldn’t stay with them for too long because we had another group of interviews coming in. We did the exact same thing as yesterday in terms of touring and interviewing. It was great to experience it over multiple days because the vibe was quite different today compared to yesterday. After the interviewees left we debriefed then Yessica and I headed out for the day.
