Summary of Week 11 Matched with Competencies

  • 3.1: Coordinate the delivery of intervention(s)onsistent with the implementation plan.
    • 3.1.5: Train staff andvolunteers to ensure fidelity.
      • This week I helped train some volunteers on how to run the cart. Training volunteers has become one of my favorite tasks because I really understand the position now and it makes me feel like I’m good at my job. It’s also fun to bond with the volunteers.
  • 3.2: Deliver health education and promotion interventions.
    • 3.2.3: Implement a marketing plan.
      • This week we basically finished our marketing plan for Strollin. We posted recaps of the event, highlighting important aspects of the event. We also posted the sponsor thank yous that were part of their benefits of being a sponsor.
  • 6.3: Develop message(s) using communication theories and/or models.
    • 6.3.4: Employ media literacy skills (e.g., identifying credible sources and balancing multiple view points)
      • Our new series, ABCs of Cancer, requires the use of media literacy skills because we need to make sure the things we post are culturally aware and inclusive of all cancer experiences. While brainstorming we’ve tried to include a mix of vocabulary, resources, and support to make it the most beneficial to as many people as possible and balance the view points of medical and emotional/personal.

Reflection of Week 11

  • This week was a good one! It was nice to get back into the swing of things after working on Strollin for so long. It was awesome to debrief the event and talk about how much of a community impact we made. We raised money that will help us support patients through their treatment and we hope to soon be able to pay for colonoscopies the same way we pay for mammograms. We talked about the members of our community who signed up to be contacted about scheduling a colonoscopy, which is one of the most important parts of us hosting this event! The impact was awesome and gave me even mroe experience in event planning and post event procedures. I had some time to work on content this week, mainly recap posts from Strollin and other recent events. This content shows our community members and supporters the impact we’re having and recognizes them if they attended. It makes people feel seen and appreciated to see thier picture on our socials. Selling leftover Strollin shirts in the Lobby allowed me to talk to different people than usual which was fun!
