Summary of Week 8 Matched with Competencies

• 3.2: Deliver health education and promotion interventions.
  • 3.2.3: Implement a marketing plan.
    • Yessica and I have been implementing the social media marketing plan for Strollin’ consistently, but this week we did boots on the ground implementation. We went to GI, PCP, and community health organizations in the area to invite them and their patients to the event where they will be able to learn more about colon cancer.
• 6.1: Determine factors that affect communication with the identified audience(s).
  • Identify the assets, needs, and characteristics of the audience(s) that affect communication and message design(e.g., literacy levels, language, culture, and cognitive and perceptual abilities.)
    • While canvasing for Strollin, Yessica noticed that one place we went only had flyers and brochures in Spanish, meaning our English flyers would probably be useless in that environment. When we got back to the office we talked to Amy about it and she got us connected to the translator to help us make a copy of the flyer in Spanish. I was going home for the day at this point so I didn’t directly work with the translator, but it’s something important that we as a foundation addressed. 

Reflection of Week 8

• This week was very volunteer and content heavy! I was able to hang out with/be in charge of/fill in for volunteers a lot this week which I found very fun. It’s awesome getting to interact with the patients who this whole program was created for. These chunks of joy remind us what we’re doing it for. We talked about brand cohesion this week and to best continue on with our social media. I love that Amy has given us so much space to create what we want and let it be a collaborative process. Another great week in the books! Next week is spring break so Yessica and I won’t be in the office, but we’ll be back the week after!
