Molly is back in the office and we started our morning by setting up the colon for the day. Molly, Caroline, and I went to grab breakfast together because it was catered by Newks this morning. I sat down to do some work when a volunteer needed some help because she’s never worked the cart before. I took her upstairs to get a vest where Molly intercepted her and took over the training process. Then I was able to sit and blog about yesterday. Molly had to leave for a meeting so I was holding down the fort here. I checked on all the volunteers and helped some people get to and from their cars as well as chat with patients waiting in the lobby. I checked on our radiation volunteer and chatted with him for a while. Then I headed up to the infusion floor to check on Caroline and the volunteer. We had a volunteer drop this morning so Caroline had to fill in, but she had to leave for school at 10:45 so I took her spot then. Our volunteer also had to leave early around 11:30 so once left I was manning the cart by myself. I had so much fun getting snacks and drinks for patients and their caregivers. This was the first time I’ve really run the cart and not just helped for a few minutes so it was awesome to experience what the volunteers do. I also got kind of emotional while doing it because I thought about how my parents were probably the chatty patients on the floor when my mom was getting treatment. I restocked the cart and decorated cups with encouraging phrases to give people a little joy during a tough time. Once the next shift of volunteers got in I updated them on how the day has been then went to eat my lunch and talk to Molly. I wrote and posted my blog for the day then headed home!
