Summary of Week 13 Matched with Competencies

• 6.3: Develop message(s) using communication theories and/or models.
  • 6.3.4: Employ media literacy skills (e.g., identifying credible sources and balancing multiple view points)
    • Over the semester I’ve done research for many projects, but this week I worked on finding information to include in cancer awareness month posts for the rest of the year. I only use .org websites and often find a few dedicated to each cancer. It’s helpful to look at a few different sites to see what each of them highlight so I know what information is important. 
• 3.1: Coordinate the delivery of intervention(s) consistent with the implementation plan.
  • 3.1.1: Secure implementation resources.
    • At our Growing Together meeting this week we had show and tell of everything that has been ordered for the event so far. We have lots of items to make the event more engaging and fun for kids like little lab coats, ID cards, and syringe pens. We talked about the supplies needed for the rest of the stations. On the Kesem side we talked about all the supplies I’ll need to get from our storage unit and how we’ll talk to families about this resource. The nurses and UGA CLS are in charge of procuring their resources. We will order more resources closer to the event!

Reflection of Week 13

• This week has focused a lot on organizing things before we leave in a few short weeks. Yessica and I have organized everything we can and explained where everything is and how to use it. It’s making me sad that this experience is coming to a close because I’ve enjoyed the work so much. I love how interactive it is with volunteers, patients, and caregivers. The core of work stays the same, but we have different events, meetings, donations, and special volunteers that it never becomes monotonous. I’ve become so much more confidant in this job over the semester. We did some planning for Growing Together this week. I’m so excited for the event because it’s merging my 2 worlds and I’ve been able to give helpful advice since I have a lot more experience working with children than the rest of the team. I’m excited for the events we have to round of the semester.
