Summary of week 6 Matched with Competencies

  • 6.4: Select methods and technologies used to deliver message(s).
    • 6.4.3: Develop communication aids, materials or tools using appropriate multimedia (e.g., infographics, presentation software, brochures, and posters.
      • This week I made a presentation for the cosmetologist that we work with for Look Good Feel Better to help her better explain the process to participants and to help the participants who might be more visual learners find their products faster.  Yessica had the idea for us to create a flyer as well that we can pass out to each participant that they can take home as a reminder of the process. The national Look Good Feel Better team has booklets, but they don’t have very helpful pictures and are very long so hopefully these flyers will help.
  • 2.1: Engage priority populations, partners, and stakeholders for participation in the planning process.
    • 2.1.1: Convene priority populations, partners, and stakeholders.
      • We had our weekly Strollin meeting on Thursday where we talked about sponsorships, decor, and event logistics. We are 11 month out from the event so we will be meeting in person once a week to continue this planning!

Reflection of week 6

  • I feel like we got a lot of things done this week! We do a lot every week, but this week the tasks felt very tangible and physical which made it feel like I was doing more. This week included a lot of organizing that will make all of our lives at UCBC Cares easier. Both bulletin boards went up and we organized the storage of all of our supplies, making our use of the storage unit more effective and less anxiety inducing. Making the Look Good Feel Better slides this week showed me that I can affect people outside of this cancer center through my work. These slides can be used at other Look Good Feel Better events and help other women going through cancer treatment. I was grateful to have the opportunity to go to the non-profit management workshop this week because it will not only help me in my work with UCBC Cares, but in my work with Kesem and hopefully my future work with other non-profits.
