Today the intern squad came to work early because there was a GI tumor board presentation at 7am. This is a group of physicians who meet one a month to talk about interesting or difficult cases. Today they only had 2 real cases to present. It was really interesting to watch them interact and talk in such medical terms. I didn’t understand most of what they were saying, but it was cool to be included! We got breakfast from flying biscuit which was yummy. We went to Molly’s office to do computer work for a while. We helped her find contact information of companies we want to ask to sponsor Strollin. Then I looked for and printed activity sheets for the child volunteers for Breast Friends. Some of the doctor’s daughters are going to be there and I have been tasked with overseeing them at the event since I have so much experience with kids from Kesem. Molly also wanted memes for the volunteer room so I made memes specific to UCBC Cares and printed those too. Amy had me check the mail and take some supplies for Breast Friends to one of the doctors. Then it was time for the Lunch and Learn with The Cancer Foundation. This is an event we do once a quarter where pharmaceutical representatives have the opportunity to present directly to our physicians. We set up the conference room for the event by gathering all promotional materials from the 4 companies presenting, setting up lunch, and placing flowers around the room. I got to sit in on a few of the presentations and it was another case of me just listening and not understanding what they’re talking about, but it was a cool opportunity! Yessica and I walked out each of the groups to make sure they got back to their cars. After all of the pharmaceutical representatives and physicians left we had lunch and debriefed the event.
