Today is another day of independence! Molly and Amy are not in the office as they are visiting another one of our offices to drop off the new snack carts that Amy and I bought earlier this week. Yessica is here today so we debriefed our days yesterday since she was in the office and I was offsite at the ACC Total Health Fair. We started by blogging our days then going upstairs to talk to the volunteers as they checked into their shifts. We got to introduce ourselves and make sure they were settled before heading back to Molly’s office to facetime with Amy. Since she’s not in the office she wanted to give us some things to do and ask me about my experience yesterday. She gave us the task of compiling the results of all of the oncology massage therapy surveys completed by patients who received a massage from our volunteer masseuse. Yessica scanned all of the documents while I made a sheet that would help us count responses to create statistics on the success and benefits of the program. We found that 98% of patients who received oncology massage therapy reported that they felt relaxed or refreshed afterward and over 96% of patients who received oncology massage therapy reported that the experience was highly beneficial. We sent this information to Molly and Amy and started working on some potential social media posts to highlight this awesome service. After this, we talked to Charissa, one of the social workers, about an event we’re having in April called Wonders and Worries. This event supports the families of cancer patients. Since I’m one of the directors of Kesem at The University of Georgia she wants to talk about our partnership at the event and what my volunteers can do. She wants us to brainstorm some activities for the event. We scheduled a more formal meeting with her next Wednesday when she has more time to talk. We headed back to Molly’s office to work on content and finally made a content calendar for the year. This document is so helpful for us to visualize what will be posted when. We color coded it based on what kind of post it is, education, awareness, events, donations, etc.. We started adding posts we know need to go up which will help us fill in the empty weeks with evergreen backup posts. After a while it was time for lunch and we had Ippolitos! After we ate we headed back up to volunteer check in to say goodbye to the volunteers finishing their shifts and hello to the volunteers just getting here for afternoon shifts. It’s been nice getting to meet and interact with more and more volunteers as time goes on. I finished my day by writing this blog! It’s supposed to snow over the weekend so we’ll see if we have work on Monday!
