Hello blog! Today I tabled at the Athens Clarke County Total Health Fair at The Classic Center. This fair is set up for ACC government/public employees to be able to take control of and learn about their health and the services available in Athens Clarke County. I tabled with Aly and Blane who work in marketing. I just observed Aly for  the first bit to see how she was interacting with people and what information she was giving them. After a while I felt comfortable talking to people by myself and sharing about what we do at UCBC and UCBC Cares. The main thing we were highlighting was our comprehensive breast hall program which starts with screening and prevention and will take you through the whole process of diagnostics and treatment if necessary. We were reminding women to schedule their mammograms and letting them know that we are currently offering extended hours to accommodate people who can’t get off work who still need to get their screenings. We passed out educational cards for how to perform a self breast exam that had a pop out for each month after you completed it to make sure you check yourself consistently. We still made sure to talk to men about mammograms so they could remind the women in their lives to get screened. We also shared information about our colorectal, gastrointestinal, and primary care services. The event was a little slow so I ended up walking around to other tables to see if any of these health related organizations had openings where I could work. No one had jobs off the top of their head that they could give me, but I took many brochures and business cards with websites and phone numbers to keep my eye on. They provided lunch for the vendors which consisted of some absolutely delightful chicken noodle soup, an unpleasant salad, and a fine little chocolate cake. Today was a long day, I was at the event from 8am to 3pm so I took a well deserved nap after.
