Today started off great with Chick-Fil-A breakfast and Krispy Kreme donuts! Today was a busy day that flew by so fast. I started my morning catching up on my blog and email. At 9am we had a meeting for the survivors day picnic that will take place in either May or June, the date is still up for debate. Last year was the first year this event was put on at UCBC and was a way to celebrate survivors, caregivers, patients, and providers with a fun afternoon. UCBC Cares supplied all of the volunteers and we plan to do the same again this year. In this meeting we talked about things that went well last year and things that can be improved from last year. We talked about having more volunteers to help people get around and carry their plates. One thing that was great from last year were the healthy food options. This helped emphasize the theme of survivorship and maintaining health after cancer. After this meeting we headed to the GI building for a meeting for Strollin for the Colon, an awareness event we put on for colon cancer. The day will have food, speakers, activities, and a mile walk. The goal of the event is to raise awareness for colon cancer and show people what resources are available to them through UCBC and UCBC Cares. This event will be on March 21st. We met with Kristen who I’ve met before and Lindsey who I haven’t met. We talked about logistics for the event, getting sponsors, what activities and tables we’re going to have, what food we’ll have, etc.. I enjoyed this meeting more than the picnic meeting because it was less formal and I felt more comfortable sharing my opinions. We took them colonoscopy prep kits that one of the other interns, Caroline, put together using UCBC Cares resources for patients who can’t afford them. After these meetings Amy and I headed to the hardware store to buy two rolling carts to make mini snack carts for some of UCBC’s satellite locations. They will get built and set up this week then Amy and Molly will deliver them on Friday. Amy and I got Zaxby’s for lunch and I headed home for the day!
